Photos from Constitution Day Events

  • On September 17, 2019, students from iPrep Academy and Law Enforcement Officers’ (LEO) Memorial High School participated in the annual observance of Constitution Day hosted by District Judge Beth Bloom and led by attorneys Altanese Phenelus, Ana Romes, Irina Sadovnic, Stephanie Turk and David Weinstein from the South Florida Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. Students were given a pocket Constitution and discussed the Preamble and Constitutional rights and responsibilities before participating in a naturalization ceremony presided over by District Judge Jose Martinez and District Judge Beth Bloom. The LEO Memorial High School's Color Guard presented the flags and students led the Pledge of Allegiance, welcoming 141 newly naturalized citizens. The day concluded with a tour of the We the People exhibition at the HistoryMiami Museum.

  • On September 17, 2019, students from Donna Klein Jewish Academy and Santaluces High School participated in the Court’s Civil Discourse and Difficult Decisions program in observance of Constitution Day. The program was presided over by District Judge Robin L. Rosenberg and led by attorneys Panayotta Augustin-Birch, Alison Brown, James Dawson, James Duffy, Brandy Galler, Adam Hodges, Andrew Lowenstein, Courtney Oakes, Kayla Pragid, Joshua Prever, Caitlin Saladrigas, Darcie Thompson and Matthew Zimmerman from the West Palm Beach Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. Students read the Constitution’s Preamble as they followed along with a video by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, after which they discussed the meaning of each statement with the judge and volunteer attorneys. Student’s comments in their written evaluations showed that they took away lessons about anticipating consequences before taking action.

This year's event was hosted by District Judge Beth Bloom and led by attorneys Alaina Fotiu-Wojtowicz, Jessica Neer McDonald and Stephanie Turk from the South Florida Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. Students observed a virtual naturalization ceremony presided over by District Judge Beth Bloom and participated in a distance-learning program focused on voting rights and its history. The program included a We the People presentation from the HistoryMiami Museum.

Students experienced the distance-learning environment by engaging in a discussion about the Constitution's Preamble and participating in the skill-building Civil Discourse and Difficult Decisions program.
