Owens, Jr. v. Miami-Dade County et al (24-CV-24094-BB) Posted 11/14/2024

The Complaint alleges that in December of 1998, Plaintiff was arrested and booked in Miami-Dade County Jail. Law enforcement officers then unlawfully seized Plaintiff from custody while he was a pretrial detainee, falsely imprisoned him, and proceeded to sexually assault him and subject him to physical brutality. Plaintiff also alleges he was violently sexually assaulted by a prison official on December 1, 2023. Plaintiff is therefore seeking declaratory relief that the acts alleged violated his rights, a permanent injunction ordering Defendants to modify their official policies, customs, and practices moving forward, $600,000,000.00 in compensatory damages, and $150,000,000.00 in punitive damages. This case is at a very early stage, and volunteer representation would entail representing Defendant during all pretrial proceedings, including discovery, mediation, and at trial, if necessary.
