Burgess v. Palm Beach County, Florida et al (23-CV-81265-RKA) Posted 11/22/2023

The Plaintiff, Rayquan Burgess, has filed a civil rights complaint under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 against five defendants employed by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. Burgess alleges that officials at the Palm Beach County Jail are responsible for an unconstitutional custom of allowing known violent offenders to freely intermingle in the Jail without adequate supervision—which resulted in Burgess being stabbed by another inmate. Burgess also claims that the Defendants were deliberately indifferent to his safety and medical needs by failing to protect him from these violent inmates and for unreasonably delaying medical treatment after Burgess was attacked.
