Barrios v. City of Miami et al (24-CV-24004-BB) Posted 11/08/2024

The Complaint alleges that Defendants City of Miami, Miami Police Department, Chief of Police, and a number of Miami Police officers violated Plaintiff’s First, Fourth, and Fourteenth Amendment rights as well as other civil rights by discriminating against him, and unlawfully detaining, searching, and arresting him without probable cause in response to his social media video. Plaintiff also alleges that Defendants acted grossly negligent by not thoroughly and impartially investigating a complaint he filed with internal affairs. Plaintiff demands judgment against Defendants and seeks $2,000,000 in compensatory damages, $1,500,000 in punitive damages, attorneys’ fees and costs, as well as declaratory and injunctive relief.

This case is at a very early stage, and volunteer representation would entail representing Plaintiff during all pretrial proceedings, including discovery, mediation, and at trial, if necessary. If interested, please email FLSD_ProBono@flsd.uscourts.gov
