Scam Alert: Fraudulent Jury Summons and What You Should Know

Monday, April 21, 2025

How can I tell if a jury summons or related communication is a scam? What should I do if I suspect a jury scam?

Federal courts will never contact you to request money, Social Security numbers, credit card details, or any other sensitive personal information. Additionally, legitimate jury service will always take place at a federal courthouse within the district where you reside—never at an alternate location.

If you receive suspicious mail or phone calls claiming to be from the court, do not provide any personal information or make a payment. Instead, contact the Southern District of Florida Jury Section directly at (800) 865-1775 or (305) 523-5190. You may also visit any federal courthouse location within the district in person. A list of courthouse addresses can be found on our website: www.flsd.uscourts.gov.

Important: Do not call any phone number provided by the suspicious caller or listed on questionable documents, as it may be fraudulent.

If you believe you’ve been targeted or victimized by a jury scam, you may report the incident to your local U.S. Marshals Service office and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). You may also file a complaint online with the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) at www.ic3.gov.
