Government Attorneys

Pursuant to the Local Rules of the Southern District of Florida, Special Rules Governing the Admission and Practice of Attorneys, Rule 4(d): “Any full time U.S. Attorney, Assistant U.S. Attorney, Federal Public Defender and Assistant Federal Public Defender and attorney employed full time by and representing the United States government, or any agency thereof, and any Attorney General and Assistant Attorney General of the State of Florida may appear and participate in particular actions or proceedings on behalf of the attorney’s employer in the attorney’s official capacity without petition for admission.  Any attorney so appearing is subject to all rules of this Court.”

Upon request, CM/ECF log-ins and passwords are issued to attorneys employed by government agencies. Users must email or fax a request for issuance of a special bar number to Attorney Admissions. Your request must be on agency letterhead and include your name, address, phone and fax numbers, and date of birth. Your special bar number (“A” number) will be sent back to you via the way it was received (fax/email). CM/ECF training is required for both members of our bar as well as government attorneys (Administrative Order 2006-26 provided specific information regarding the requirement for training and registration for CM/ECF for all members of this Court’s bar.) You can register for this training on our website under the heading CM/ECF Resources.   Please note that a log-in/password for CM/ECF will not be issued without completing either the on-line computer based training or the hands-on training in either the Miami or West Palm Beach Courthouses.  You may register for CM/ECF training with your special bar number 24-48 hours after receipt of your special bar number.

Government Attorneys who leave Government Agencies

Users who leave government agencies and do not transfer to other government agencies must email or fax notification to Attorney Admissions so their log-in and password can be deactivated. Users associated with government agencies who leave government practice must already be or become members of the Bar of the Southern District of Florida in order to register for CM/ECF log-ins and passwords.
