Revised Attorney Training Options Effective January 3, 2012
Since October 12, 2006, all attorneys admitted to practice in the Southern District of Florida are required to file documents electronically through CM/ECF, except as provided for in the Court’s Administrative Procedures or otherwise ordered by the Court. In order to receive a log-in to file electronically in CM/ECF, you must be admitted to the Southern District of Florida Bar and you must complete the remote computer based training or attend the hands-on training.
1. Remote Computer Based CM/ECF Attorney Training
Attorneys may satisfy the CM/ECF training requirement via the Southern District of Florida computer based course available on-line. The computer based training (CBT) modules are interactive and provide step-by-step instructions regarding opening new civil cases electronically, filing notice of appearance in civil and criminal cases, filing motions, and linking corresponding documents. CLE credit will not be available for attorneys who complete the computer based training.
Please allow approximately 2 hours to complete the training course. The training course is comprised of 5 modules that must be completed within the same session. Closed captioning is available. Upon completion of all 5 modules you will prompted to provide information as proof of completion in order to receive a login and password via email within 3 business days to be able to start filing via CM/ECF. You may start the computer based CM/ECF training by clicking here.
2. Hands-on CM/ECF Attorney Training
Please note: With the availability of the remote computer based training described above, the hands-on training sessions will only be provided a couple times per month. The hands-on training provides users with an interactive approach, as well as, step-by-step instructions on how to navigate through the CM/ECF system. You may register on-line by clicking here. Choose a date and location that will accommodate your schedule and complete the registration process. A confirmation will be sent to the e-mail account you used when you registered within 24 hours. If you need to cancel or reschedule, you may do so by clicking on the cancellation option in your confirmation email. You may also contact the CM/ECF training department at (305) 523-5233. All attendees may register for CLE credit after the training requirements have been completed.
3. Non-Attorney/Staff Training
Paralegals, legal assistants, IT staff, or other non-attorney support staff who will be involved in the electronic case filing process are highly encouraged to complete the Non-Attorney version of the computer based training. Non-Attorney staff may also attend the hands-on training by registering online by clicking here. To complete the Non-Attorney CBT click here.
4. Law Firm Training
On-Site Firm Training is available if you have 20 or more individuals who require training (Attorneys and/or Non-Attorney Staff). The firm must be able to accommodate all participants and have a reliable internet connection. The content of the training is the same as in our Hands-on CM/ECF Attorney Training, but can be altered to meet your firm’s needs and any additional questions. Please contact our training department for further information at (305) 523-5233.
