How to Get Help (For Attorneys) – VLP
How Do I Sign Up?
Simply fill out the form and send it in via e-mail to bforbes@volunteerlawyersproject.org, via fax or via the mail.
Will I Automatically Have a Case Referred To Me If I Sign Up?
No. When referring a case to a volunteer attorney, we take into account such factors as geographic location, type of case the attorney is willing to take and scheduling consideration. There are many instances where we ask attorneys to simply review a file to help us determine whether it qualifies for the Project. Other times we may ask an attorney for information related to a specific area of law.
I’m Not In South Florida, Can I Still Participate?
Yes. You can participate by reviewing a file to help us determine the merits of a case. You can be a mentor on a case. You can prepare reference materials to be used by volunteer attorneys
What Types of Cases Do You Refer?
The Project only handles civil cases filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The majority of the cases are civil rights claims.
What About Expenses?
The Project has a Revolving Litigation Loan Fund that provides reimbursement for certain types of out-of-pocket expenses.
