Issue with NEFs sent on Monday, June 17, 2013
The Clerk’s Office in the Southern District of Florida has been notified by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts of a technical failure with the delivery of CM/ECF notices of electronic filing (NEFs) to attorneys on Monday, June 17, 2013, which affected all courts in the nation. All NEFs from Monday, June 17th, were resent this afternoon. When you receive the NEFs, the message will indicate the notice is for activity on Monday, June 17th. Unfortunately, this means that individuals may receive duplicate NEFs for filings on Monday. The Clerk’s Office apologizes for the inconvenience.
Notice – Increased Fees for Filing New Civil Cases – Effective May 1, 2013
Effective May 1, 2013, there is a new $50 general administrative fee for filing a civil action, suit, or proceeding in a district court. This fee is in addition to the existing civil filing fee of $350. Therefore, effective May 1st the total fee for filing a new civil case will be $400.
This new fee is part of the “District Court Miscellaneous Fee Schedule”, established by the Judicial Conference of the United States, pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 1914.
The $50 administrative fee does not apply to miscellaneous civil cases; habeas corpus cases; or to cases filed by pro se prisoner plaintiffs who have been provisionally granted permission to proceed in forma pauperis under 28 U.S.C. § 1915.
